Surrounded by excuses now, I do recognize
Because so long its been my pattern, my old way of life
Although I’ve lived and felt my life wasn’t how it was supposed to be
Which was bad, and even sad, because I could not clearly see
Sometimes people don’t know just who they really are
And usually it is another who is the guiding star
That shines the light on past experience and old ways of thought
And if one looks deep down within, they’d see how much they bought
Into a way of thought and actions that may have once been cool
But that was then and this is now and change is now the rule
The task, if one is wise, is to bring the truth to light
And the battle is not merely teaching how to win the fight
The fight of really looking deep, way down deep within
To see just where you’ve lost your way, way back one must begin
And when the revelation comes, your soul will open wide
Enabling you to see your life, but with a different pair of eyes
Excuses are phony versions of truth, things not really real
But they’re what we’ve used to justify on our way to being healed
So, no more excuses now, let’s change things that cause pain
For in the end you’ll surely learn–you’ll always lose, not gain.
